Local Residents Celebrate Moving Into Their New Homes

Vedonis Road, Lutterworth

Residents celebrated moving into their new homes on the £9m, 57 home development at Vedonis Road, Lutterworth by planting a tree into the landscaped area.

The scheme is on the old Vedonis Works that was a munitions factory in World War Two and latterly a hosiery factory.

The factory was demolished and the new homes were built by Westleigh Partnerships for Waterloo Housing Group. The properties are a mix of Shared Ownership (part buy, part rent) and affordable rented homes. Additional funds to enable this development to come to fruition came from Harborough District Council and Homes England.

Councillor Phil King, Deputy Leader and Planning and Regeneration portfolio holder of Harborough District Council said: “This site is 100% affordable housing with 57 properties – that’s a significant number of homes. I am delighted that we have been able to support this project to the tune of £171,000 secured through the ‘Harborough Housing Fund’ for offsite affordable housing. This will make a huge difference for local people.”

Anthony Riley from Waterloo Housing Group said "We are so pleased with the new homes at Vedonis Road. It's brilliant for such a scheme to be built in the area, with such high quality houses meeting the demands of many people who either needed rented homes or who wanted to take that first step on the ladder into Shared Ownership. Our work with Westleigh Partnerships and Harborough District Council clearly demonstrates how a proactive partnership approach can meet the shortfall of this type of housing in the area".

Simon Preston from Westleigh Partnerships commented "It was a pleasure to build these homes for our key client, Waterloo Housing Group".
