Work is approaching completion on 27 new affordable homes in Wigston following a joint venture between the Partnership Homes division of Westleigh Developments and De Montfort Housing Society Ltd, part of the Waterloo Group. The deal between Westleigh and De Montfort has seen 13 two-bedroom homes and 14 three-bedroom homes built on the site of the former Ecob’s Garden Centre on Horsewell Lane. All the homes have been built using Westframe timber frame, alongside traditional construction methods. The homes will meet all the size and energy efficiency standards set by the Society. On completion it is expected that 21 of the scheme’s properties will be available for rent and the remaining six will be allocated for shared ownership. Gary Turner, Head of Investment and Partnerships at Westleigh, comments, “We are pleased to reveal that work is now in the closing stages at our scheme on Horsewell Lane in Wigston. It is an excellent example of our ability to secure high quality land for affordable housing and once completed will provide 27 much needed homes.” Anthony Riley, Director of Business Development at Waterloo Housing Group, says, “This is an excellent scheme on a site close to all the local facilities in Wigston. The good sized family homes will help meet the needs of local families who would like to rent and also for those who cannot afford to buy their own home – but could afford a shared ownership property. We are looking forward to working with colleagues at Oadby and Wigston Borough Council so that all the homes will be occupied in the coming months.” Councillor Bill Boulter, Chair of the Residents’ Services Committee at Oadby and Wigston Borough Council, added, “As a Council, we know that there is a pressing need for affordable housing within the Borough and we are committed to helping improve this situation. This scheme will go a long way to helping those families from around Oadby and Wigston who are in pressing need of a decent, affordable home.” |
