Westleigh Partnership Homes has returned to its roots in Whetstone and completed work on a development of 28 new affordable homes. The joint venture between Westleigh and Derwent Living has seen 16 three and four-bedroom town houses and 12 one-bed and two-bed apartments built on the corner of The Dicken and High Street. The whole scheme has been built using Westframe timber frame, alongside traditional construction methods. Of the 28 properties available, it is expected that 22 will be available for rent and the remaining six will be allocated for shared ownership. It comes after the company was successful in securing a Social Housing grant as part of its allocated £14.1 million of funding from the Homes and Communities Agency (formerly known as the Housing Corporation) back in 2008. This funding is part of the £8.4 billion National Affordable Housing Programme to raise value and quality in housing between 2008 and 2011. Gary Turner, Head of Partnerships and Investments for Westleigh, comments, “This site was originally identified for speculative development, but given the recession and because of the strength of our relationship with Blaby District Council we took the decision to change it to an affordable homes scheme. We are therefore delighted to have completed this scheme, in partnership with Derwent Living, which will supply 28 new affordable homes to the area.” Paul Casey at Derwent Living says, “We have regularly undertaken work in partnership with Westleigh over recent years due to the quality of its developments and we believe this particular site will be able to greatly benefit the local community. We expect this project to prove extremely popular and are delighted with its completion. |
