Twenty-six pupils from Little Fishes Nursery, accompanied by staff and parents, visited the housing development currently being built on the site of the former Ecob’s garden centre on Horsewell Lane in Wigston. During the trip the children, aged two to four, learnt about site safety and the dangers of playing on building sites as well as watching a Westleigh excavator assist in the construction process. The visit, part of Westleigh’s ‘Good Neighbour’ commitment to the Considerate Constructors Scheme, was led and supervised by its Production Manager, Mark Stuart. He comments, “We invited Little Fishes to visit our site as we strongly believe it is important for youngsters to learn about the dangers that a building site can hold. The children were very attentive throughout their stay and particularly liked watching the digger at work. We hope everyone thoroughly enjoyed their trip and goes away and spreads the word about site safety.” The Considerate Constructors Scheme is a national scheme created by the construction industry. All sites registered with the Scheme are monitored by an experienced industry professional to assess their performance against the eight point Code of Considerate Practice which includes the categories Considerate, Environment, Cleanliness, Good Neighbour, Respectful, Safe, Responsible and Accountable.
