WESTFRAME, the Leicestershire based company that specialises in the manufacture of timber framed homes, celebrated a milestone this month, by producing its 500th unit. Factory Manager Dave Thacker said the event demonstrated the rapid progression of Westframe, a division of Westleigh Developments Ltd, which is one of the principal developers of affordable housing in the East Midlands. "This is a tremendous achievement, when you consider how many we were producing in the first year and how far we have come" he said. "Our target is to now produce 300 plus units per year and to keep up the momentum so that within two years, we should be delivering our 1,000th unit." The company has undergone controlled expansion over the past three years, having manufactured 67 units within its first year of operation and 147 units within its second. Now in its fourth year of operation, Westframe is on target to supply 300 units within 2005. Dave said this is attributable to more and more people and organisations becoming aware of the environmental and building advantages offered by timber-framed dwellings, as well as growing awareness of the Westframe service. Chris Beighton, Managing Director, Westleigh Developments, who was present at the unit's unveiling, said: "Providing affordable housing and working alongside a number of housing associations has always been a key part of Westleigh's service. Timber frames are frequently used in such projects as they enable us to keep building costs down and provide quality housing in a relatively short time span. We value Westframe's contribution and applaud any breakthroughs they make in overall production." |
